Ahrens Cup Women’s Tri Tag

Nyngan Bogan Bulls 19 defeated Bourke Ewes 10

The Nyngan Bogan Bulls maintained their strong form with a hard-fought 19-10 victory over the Bourke Ewes at Geoff New Oval in Brewarrina.

In a tightly contested encounter, the Bulls crossed for three tries to two, making the most of their scoring opportunities in a highly competitive match.

Nyngan’s tries came through Lily Burton, Chloe Fanning and Jemma Perko, while Eva Von Pein added two conversions.

The Bourke Ewes were never far from the contest, with Aimee O’Leary and Tayla Atkins both crossing for tries.

Despite the Ewes' determined effort, Nyngan’s ability to capitalise on key moments proved the difference.

Coonamble Ewes, Flamin’ Galahs and Walgett Ewes all enjoyed the bye in round six.

Elders Cup Men’s First Grade

Nyngan Bogan Bulls 21 defeated Bourke Brewarrina Barbarians 0

While the undefeated Nyngan Bogan Bulls entered the match as favourites, the Bourke Brewarrina Barbarians produced a spirited defensive performance.

Nyngan dominated possession and field position throughout the contest, but the Barbarians continually repelled wave after wave of attack. Their defensive resolve kept the match competitive for long periods before the Bulls eventually broke through, scoring three converted tries to secure a 21-0 victory.

Walgett Rams 50 defeated Warren Pumas 15

The scoreboard may suggest a comfortable victory, but the clash between the Walgett Rams and Warren Pumas was a much closer affair than the final result indicates.

Midway through the second half, Walgett held a narrow 15-12 lead as both sides battled fiercely for control. However, the Rams' superior ball control and possession eventually took its toll.

Despite Warren missing several players, the Pumas remained competitive throughout much of the contest.

Walgett finished strongly, running in seven tries, three conversions and a penalty goal, while Warren responded with two tries and a conversion.

Coonamble Rams 51 defeated Cobar Camels 0

Playing in front of their home supporters, the Coonamble Rams produced a polished performance to record a comprehensive 51-nil victory over the Cobar Camels.

The Camels once again displayed plenty of determination and enthusiasm, but they found it difficult to contain the well-drilled Rams outfit.

Coonamble controlled possession and field position for much of the contest, building pressure and eventually crossing for nine unanswered tries.

Cobar's task became even more difficult following a second-half red card, which further limited their ability to challenge the home side. Despite the setback, the Camels continued to compete strongly until the final whistle.

Looking Ahead

The competition now pauses for the King's Birthday long weekend, with a general bye scheduled across all grades.

Round seven action resumes the weekend after (Friday, June 12 and Saturday, June 13) with the following fixtures (home side listed first):

Nyngan versus Cobar. Gular versus Warren. Bourke and Brewarrina Barbarians (and Bourke Ewes) versus Coonamble.

With several teams building momentum and the second half of the season now underway, Round seven shapes as another exciting chapter in the Western Plains Rugby competition.

Country Colts Recognition

A special mention goes to five Western Plains Rams players who were selected in the Country Colts U20s squad announced last week.

Congratulations to Isaac Grimshaw, Jake Peart and Nick Tancred from Gular, Charlie Wall from Warren, and Zach Skinner from Grafton on their selection.

Their inclusion is a testament to their hard work and dedication and reflects the strength of rugby talent emerging from the Western Plains region.
