The GIL Library Hub - June 23, 2026
The final week of filmmaking arrived at Tech Club, and members worked hard to finish projects.

DFYM LEGO® Club
Katrina Nannestad’s newest book, ‘Frances Bloom: Dangerous Days’, inspired our Designs From Your Mind (DFYM) builders to imagine and create hilariously dangerous situations using bricks.
Participants were encouraged to think of ridiculously funny scenarios that would make a day “dangerous” and bring them to life through their builds.
Some recreated scenes from the book, featuring bears wearing saucepans on their heads and talking bushes, while others invented their own imaginative adventures, including rainbow coloured talking cats and ducks stealing a duck version of the Mona Lisa. These wonderfully creative builds are now on display in the library.
Tech Club
The final week of filmmaking arrived for Tech Club, and participants worked hard to complete their projects, creating stop-motion animations based on classic nursery rhymes.
Using paper puppets, the young filmmakers brought beloved characters to life, including Humpty Dumpty, the cow that jumped over the moon from ‘Hey Diddle Diddle’, the mouse who ran up the clock in ‘Hickory Dickory Dock’, and the farmer’s dog, B.I.N.G.O.
They also designed and illustrated their own backgrounds before using the magic of stop-motion animation to make their creations move.
Once they had captured enough photographs, the filmmakers recorded their own audio tracks, singing the nursery rhymes to accompany their animations.
The finished movies look fantastic, and we are excited for our next session, when Tech Club participants and their parents will come together to watch all the films created this term.
Books and Blocks
We had such a wonderful time at Books and Blocks last week, an early learning session designed to encourage imaginative play and develop fine motor skills.
Humpty Dumpty took many tumbles from the wall, dinosaurs chomped on pretend leaves and stomped through bustling cities, cars raced down ramps, and towers stretched high into the sky.
Along the way, we practised sharing, cooperation, and teamwork while letting our creativity shine.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for a fun-filled morning of learning and play. We look forward to welcoming you back when Books and Blocks returns early next month!
Upcoming early learning activities
Wiggles and Giggles is an exciting new program for children under six and is returning this week! Join us for a music and movement program, designed for preschoolers and their caregivers.
Kids get to build motor skills, practice listening, and connect with their caregivers, all the while having an absolute blast at the library!
Stories, songs, and rhymes play a vital role in the development of our babies and toddlers, and the Library warmly welcomes them and their carers to Sensory Rhyme Time next week to enjoy the richness of language and exploration of our senses together.
Join us to sing nursery rhymes, listen to simple stories, and explore specialised occupational therapy toys designed to support growing minds. Babies, toddlers, and their grown-ups are all welcome to come along and join the fun.
Upcoming Adult activities
This week, bring your thinking caps and your fun, competitive spirit along to Friday Puzzles and Games!
Enjoy a variety of card and board games, learn something new, and join fellow puzzle-solvers for an engaging and social session.
For adults, this is also a wonderful opportunity to connect with others in the community while spending a relaxed and enjoyable morning together.
Join us next week for Friday Flicks as we screen a recent, well-reviewed G or PG-rated film on the big screen.
Why not visit one of Gilgandra’s great cafés beforehand and bring along some treats to enjoy during the movie?
Can’t make it to our Friday Flicks sessions? Join us instead next week for Saturday Screenings, where we replay some of the popular films previously shown on Fridays. It’s the perfect opportunity to catch up on a movie you may have missed or simply enjoy it again on the big screen.
