Citizen of the Year, Anne Younghusband speaks at PROBUS Club

President Linda Wykes welcomed everyone to the April meeting of Gilgandra Probus Club on Thursday, April 9.
We welcome Wendy Ettershank and Terri Weaver as new members to our club.
Welfare officer Pat Thompson extended our sincere sympathy to member June Weston following the passing of her husband Don recently after a long illness.
Pat also extended those sympathies and to the family of the late Janette Hawkins who joined our club last year.
Gilgandra Probus Club will reach our 25th anniversary later this year and we spoke of how to mark this special milestone.
Tour director Denise told us of various trips Langley’s have for the year and welcomes members suggestions. She also mentioned the Gilgandra CWA International Day in August we could attend.
Following morning tea our, guest speaker Anne Younghusband told us that the most surprising thing ever in her life was to be named the Gilgandra Citizen of the Year for 2026.
Anne and her husband Neville attended the ceremony in Hunter Park not knowing she had been nominated for the award.
She said she did not expect or deserve the honour and others were more worthy.
Anne said she did not like talking about herself but she thanked Jesus for the blessings and joy in her life every day. Her family gave her that and her years of teaching piano and those students.
Baking cakes for years for all sorts of occasions for many people. Encouraging people and using her gifts with others, sharing a cuppa with someone, writing cards and letters to people. Ministering at her church through all occasions. Anne said no act of kindness is ever wasted. She enjoys her time with the Point Blank Writers' Group at the library. When asked, Anne told us about her sons who farmed very successfully in WA and the Northern Territory growing watermelons and mangoes which were sent to most parts of Australia and overseas and how proud she was of all her family.
