Nick White to Lead Council as New Mayor, Batten to Step into Deputy Role

Gilgandra Shire Council (GSC) welcomed a new mayor and deputy mayor at their ordinary council meeting on Tuesday, September 15.

For the first time in 16 years, the mayor’s’ position was put to a vote of councillors, with Cr Madeline Foran and Cr Nick White both nominating for the position of mayor, and Cr Doug Batten nominating for the position of deputy mayor.

Cr Nick White was voted in for mayor, and Cr Doug Batten will move into the deputy mayor role.

“I’d like to make the point that Doug Batten, for the last 16 years I believe, has done an exceptional job,” incoming mayor Nick White said.

“It’s going to be difficult to fill those shoes but I hope to lead Gilgandra into new opportunities.

“I look forward to all of our futures, and working with our interim general manager Kathryn Larkin,” he said.
