On Sunday, March 30, visiting authors Nette Hilton, Melaina Faranda, and Louise Park conducted workshops at the GIL Library Hub. Then on GREAT Day itself (Monday, March 31), the hub hosted local schools for more literary fun.

Library hub manager, Liz McCutcheon said the purpose of GREAT Day is to remind everyone of the importance of talking, reading, and playing with babies right from birth.

“Students from Gilgandra Public School, St Joseph’s School, Gilgandra and Tooraweenah Public Schools, Gilgandra High School, and Gilgandra Preschool, all came to hear our three special guest authors, Nette Hilton, Melaina Faranda and Louise Park talk about reading and writing,” said Mrs McCutcheon.

“Over 400 children visited the GIL Library Hub, most wearing red to celebrate ‘REaDing’. It was a wonderful day, and such a privilege to hear from our three guest authors, all of whom are very well-known, with many hundreds of published books between them.

“Our pre-GREAT Day events for adults were also well-attended, and everyone felt fortunate to listen to and learn from our guest authors. They were warm, witty and so knowledgeable - it was a fantastic event.”
