Gilgandra athletes shine at State Championships

Three talented athletes proudly represented Gilgandra Little As at last month's state champs.

Gilgandra Little Athletics was proudly represented by three talented athletes at the State Little Athletics Championships on Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22 at Sydney Olympic Park.

Katie Colwell, Thomas Colwell and Billy Larkin all competed with determination and sportsmanship, doing their club and community proud.

Each athlete showcased their skills across a range of events. Katie competed in discus, long jump and javelin, showcasing her versatility across multiple field events.

Thomas took on the challenge in shotput and discus, while Billy showed his speed and agility in the 100m, 200m and long jump.

All three competitors performed strongly against a high standard of competition from across the state, with Billy finishing an impressive 11th in the 100m sprint and missing a place in the nine years final by just 0.04 seconds, while also achieving a personal best of 32.15 seconds in the 200m.

Thomas placed 13th in discus while also recording personal bests of 7.93m in shot put and 28.29m in discus, and Katie secured 21st in discus alongside a personal best throw of 18.57m in javelin.

Their efforts, commitment and positive attitude were a credit to Gilgandra Little Athletics, highlighting the strength and spirit of the club.

Congratulations to Katie, Thomas and Billy on their fantastic achievements at the State Championships.

All club achievements will be celebrated at the presentation day and annual general meeting in early May, recognising the efforts and successes of every athlete.
