Castlereagh League meeting this Sunday in Gil
On the agenda, the inaugural Castlereagh Community Cup

Fourteen Castlereagh League clubs will converge on Gilgandra this Sunday for a general meeting that will finalise things for what should be a bumper 2026 season.
Kicking off the day’s proceedings will be a meeting of the clubs who will compete in in inaugural Castlereagh Community Cup which is designed to provide rugby league for the smaller communities, it being a one town, one team competition.
As interest in the Castlereagh League continues to grow, and the club numbers grow there is seen a need to cater and provide football for these smaller communities who want to have their own team.
It will be interesting to see how it all goes, with the proposed competition being a relatively short sharp one at the start of the year.
The timing of the Community Cup comp will give these clubs an insight into what is required at the club level if they have aspirations of moving from the Community Cup to the first grade Castlereagh League competition in the future.
The timing will also allow players from the Community Cup to transfer to other Castlereagh clubs at the completion of the Community Cup should they be interested in playing more games in 2026.
Be interesting to see how it all pans out, but at least the Castlereagh League is trying to cater for as many clubs and players as it can.
