Sunday’s Social Bowls
Eight bowlers enjoyed a game of social bowls on a lovely sunny Sunday on August 24.
The winners were the pretty handy team of Mal Altmann and Even Kew who defeated Dave Jones and Rod Howchin, 23-5.
The remaining game saw the win go to Bruce Parker and Shaun Marchant who defeated Leroy Gregory and Norm Lummis, 13-11.
B Pairs Championships Final
The final of the B Pairs Championships was also played on Sunday (August 24). The team of Bob Rogers and David Duffy took on Jayden Doran and Blake Cook.
This game was worthy of being the final as some great bowls were played by both teams.
The Duffy skipped team took the lead on the very first end and kept that lead until the 20th end, be it not by a big margin at any given time.
On the 19th end Bob and Duffy lead 17-10 with only two ends to play. Just as Duffy was looking at preparing his victory speech the never give up Doran and Cook pulled out the big shots in gaining a five on the 20th end followed by two shots on the last end which resulted in the score being 17-all after the required 21 ends.
As happens with the scores being level, an extra end had to be played to determine the winner.
On the extra end, the man of the match, Bob Rogers, made it easy for his skip when he planted his three bowls in very close proximity to the jack. Jayden and Blake did all they could to draw the shot but it wasn’t to be with Rogers and Duffy claiming the win, 21-17.
Bob Rogers played outstanding bowls to claim his first-ever championship victory, with Jayden also playing great bowls considering he was backing up after playing his singles game in the morning. Congratulations to the winners and also to the runners-up on making the finals and giving it their best shot.
B Singles Championships Action
Two games of B singles Championships were also played over the weekend. The first game resulted in a win to Bruce Parker who defeated Shayne Barwick, with the score being 25-17, while Jayden Doran defeated Tracey Riley, 25-8.
Mid West Open Reserve Triples Finals
Over the weekend (August 23 and 24), two teams of Gil bowlers contested the Mid West Region Open Reserve Triples Finals at West Dubbo Bowling Club.
On Saturday morning in the first round David Duffy, Brent McKenzie and Danial Riley gained a bye which put them straight into the semi-final on Saturday afternoon.
Unfortunately these lads were defeated by only one shot by the Peak Hill team after an extra end was needed as the scores were level at 18-all after the required ends were played.
Our other Gil team of Dylan Marchant, Garry Raines and Noel Raines had a win in their round one game on Saturday morning when they defeated Parkes, 31-11.
This win put them into the semi-final on Saturday afternoon when they had another good win in defeating Dubbo City 30-9.
On Sunday morning the Raines skipped team returned to Dubbo to play in the final of this event.
Congratulations to Dylan, Garry and Noel in taking out this event with a comfortable win in the final against Peak Hill, 31-17.
This win puts this team into the final rounds of the NSW Open Reserve Triples at date and venue to be advised.
